Although there are many successful researchers in Hong Kong every year, not all of them have chance to startup their own business. Sengital Limited is one of the successful startup stories in Hong Kong.

The research idea on virtual reality was originated from a study by Dr. Alan Lam at Chinese University of Hong Kong. After taking the virtual reality course in his M. Phil. study, he was thinking that everything could be virtual. He believed that any virtual model can be built in the virtual world. As he was observing the many computers inside the laboratory being connected to keyboards and mouses. the idea of producing Load of Computer Ring, i.e. a virtual keyboard and mouse evolved and became a focus of this research.

During the process, support was also solicited from Prof. Wen J. LI, Associate Professor of Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering (ACAE) of CUHK. Dr. Alan Lam and Prof. Li thus worked together to develop the technology and create this innovative product.

The technology itself is fundamental and more related to theory. However, the system implementation is innovative which is easily understood by public. The technology was demonstrated in various fairs and exhibitions. Through these activities, the technology attracted the interest of the important partner, Mr. Viveik M. SAIGAL who is the CEO of Savia Limited. The Sengital team was then formed with the three professors from CUHK, Dr. Alan Lam and Mr. SAIGAL as the founders of Sengital Limited.

The first product line of Sengital based on VRMS to develop a series of motion controlled game controller in order to create the next generation of gaming peripherals. VRMS enhances joypad play using players' hand motion as input. In addition to the traditional button control, VRMS adds multi-directional motion control to the joypad. VRMS Double Shock Joypad can perform all the functions of a traditional joypad, mouse, keyboard, and joystick based on the programmable driver. It creates less clutter, adds the new dimension of motion input, removes hand and body fatigue... and at the same time, increases performance. One input device for every game genre. Racing, shooting, sports, flight simulation, RPG and more...! Now, this innovative product has been launched and sold to Europe. Currently, Sengital is focusing on the wireless standard IEEE 802.15.4 - ZigBee development. The main applications is for home automation and monitoring system. Up to now, Sengital has several achievements: Sengital has joined the incubation program organized by Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Corporation which has been providing management and technical assistance programs. Moreover, Sengital has joined the Freescale Design Alliance Program in April 2005 and currently partnered with more than 15 companies and University departments. In support of its innovative product, Sengital was awarded the Innovation and Technology Fund by Innovation and Technology Commission, Hong Kong SAR Government.
