Innovation Expo 07 commences today (14 Sep)

With the theme "Let's Innovate...For a New Era", the 10-week Innovation Festival 07 was launched at apm, Kwun Tong on 31 August. The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr Anthony Wong and the Honorary Secretary of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Mr Walter Chan Kar-lok were the officiating guests.

The core event of the Festival, Innovation Expo 07 will commence today at Hall 1 of HK Convention and Exhibition Centre till 18 September.  The Expo is joined by over 100 exhibitors, with a scale near to 9000 square meters divides into six thematic zones: Technology Parade, State Key Labs, Hong Kong's R&D Centres, Design Focus, Young Innovators and Mainland Technology Achievements.

With the support of the State Ministry of Science and Technology, visitors at the Expo will see a large-scale model of the Three Gorges Dam, a major engineering project in the Mainland. 



Highlights of Innovation Expo 07
In the Expo, there will be more than 20 stimulating and informative seminars on various topics related to innovation and technology, 50 DesignTech Workshops targeted at youngsters, and attempts to set two Guinness World Records : "The Highest Number of Lego Robots in a Tug-of-War" and "The Highest Number of Students Making Lego Robots Together". The FIRST Tech Challenge Game 2007 is first to be held in HK on 15 September. Students from 25 local secondary schools will design and assemble a robot to accomplish the demanding tasks during the competition. Visitors of the Expo are also invited to vote for their "Most Wanted Technology Breakthrough" and win for fabulous prizes.

Demonstration of Infrared Ear Thermometer Calibration System in the Innovation Expo 07

The Standards and Calibration Laboratory of the Innovation and Technology Commission will demonstrate an infrared ear thermometer calibration system in the Science in Public Service Pavilion of the Innovation Expo 2007.  Infrared ear thermometer is expected to have an accuracy of ± 0.2 °C.  To ensure the accuracy, infrared ear thermometer is required to be calibrated regularly. The calibration is conducted using a blackbody radiator immersed in a constant temperature bath.  Visitors are welcome to bring along their own infrared ear thermometers to the Pavilion (Booth E5) to check the accuracy.
